Pierres de Dalmatie by Raoul Ubac,1932-32

In 1932, Raoul Ubac decides to cross Europe on foot. In Dalmatia, where he stopped for a while, he will make his first assemblages of stones: “It was there that my love for stone was born. I made assemblages of found stones.I drew and made photographs.” The same year he enrolled at the Werkschule Cologne, where he learned all the photographic techniques (photograms, photomontages, solarisations, overlays, etc.). He then directed his first photocollages like this picture where the woman’s body is mixed with stones from Dalmatia.
