Bellocq ~Plate 29 from Storyville Portraits
There has been considerable speculation as to who scratched out the heads of subjects of the next few plates, and why. Some say it was most likely E.J. Bellocq’s brother, a priest, who did it after finding them in his brother’s effects. Others say it was E.J. himself, who did it for personal reasons, either to protect the identity of the person, or for some other reason unknown.
